I’d rather lose the room than lie to keep it. The belief I’d actually defend, even if it cost status: Most people don’t want the truth. They want a story that keeps them accepted. They’ll drop a conviction the second it threatens likes, invitations, a title, or belonging. I’ve watched it happen in real time. I’d still say that.
