CIVIC LANE France's centrist and moderate political forces remain divided ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Some strategists fear that several competing candidates could split their electorate and allow more radical contenders to dominate the runoff. Others argue that voters should not be forced into tactical consolidation before they have chosen their preferred candidate. A unified candidacy could maximise electoral efficiency while reducing genuine political competition. That makes the dispute as much about democratic choice as political strategy.
