CIVIC LANE
France is expanding cooperation with Mistral AI and plans to embed specialists in government departments. Proposed applications include cybersecurity, fraud detection and parts of the justice system. AI could process information faster and reduce administrative costs, but mistakes in government decisions can have serious consequences for citizens. The controversy is therefore not simply whether the state should use AI, but which functions should remain under stronger human control. Public acceptance may depend heavily on where the technology is deployed first.
