Spanish tourism employment reached a record of roughly 3.09 million workers in July. Tourism now represents close to one in seven jobs nationally. The industry generates income for restaurants, hotels, transport operators and local businesses. At the same time, heavily visited areas continue to debate congestion, housing pressure and the effects of mass tourism on residents. The record employment figures make the trade-off between economic benefits and visitor limits harder to ignore.
